[edit] Named Angels
[edit] Jibril
Jibril is the most famous angel. He is one the leaders of the angels along with Mika'il and Israfil. Jibril is entrusted with the revelations by which hearts and souls are brought to life.
[edit] Mika'il
Mika'il is entrusted with the plants and the rain. It is narrated by Ibn Abbas in at-Tabarani that the prophet Muhammed
said to Jibril.
"What is Mika'il in charge of?". He replied "The plants and the rain".
[edit] Israfil
Israfil is entrusted with blowing The Trumpet on The Day of Judgement
[edit] Munka and Nakir
Munka and Nakir are entrusted with the trial of the grave.
The Prophet said,
"When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad? He will say: I testify that he is Allah's slave and His Apostle
. Then it will be said to him, 'Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.' "[1]
The Prophet added,
"The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, 'Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quran).' Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns."
[edit] the Angel of Death
He is know by some as Azra'il and is entrusted with the taking of the souls. However his correct name is Malik ul-Maut Say: "The Angel of Death, put in charge of you, will (duly) take your souls: then shall ye be brought back to your Lord." The appearance of the angel of death will depend upon the actions of those they visit. If the person was good Azra'il will appear kind and good. If the person was bad Azra'il will appear evil and ugly[2]
[edit] The Guardian Angels
It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceal his speech or declare it openly; whether he lie hid by night or walk forth freely by day. For each (such person) there are (angels) in succession, before and behind him: They guard him by command of Allah. Verily never will Allah change the condition of a people until they change it themselves (with their own souls). But when (once) Allah willeth a people's punishment, there can be no turning it back, nor will they find, besides Him, any to protect. [3]
[edit] The Recording Angels
- One of the other roles of Angels is to record the good and bad deeds of a person. Each person has two angels, one on the left shoulder and one on the right shoulder. The One on the right records the good actions, and the one on the left records the evil actions
- QAF 50:17-18 "Behold, two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and noted them), one sitting on the right and one on the left. Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it)."
- AL-INFITAR 82:10-11 "But verily over you (are appointed angels) to protect you, Kind and honourable, Writing down (your deeds)"
- Sufyan was asked "How do the angels know that a person intends a good or evil action?" He replied, "When someon intends a good action, they smell the scent of musk coming from him, and when he intends an evil action, they smell a putrid smell coming from him.
- Al-Bukhari transmitted with his isnad from Abu Hurayra that the messenger of Allah
said [citation needed]
| "Allah, the mighty and majestic, has said, 'when my slave wants to do an evil action, you should not write it down until he does it. If he does it, then write down the equivalent of it. If he does not do it for My sake, then write it down as a good action for him. If he wants to do a good action and does not do it, then write it down as a good action. If he does do it, then write down ten to seven hundred of its like". |
Ibn Hajar said in al-Fath. "This hadith indicates that the angel is aware of what is in the heart of the human being, either by Allah acquainting him with it or by creating for him knolwedge by which he perceives it."[citation needed]
[edit] The Custodians of Jennah and Jehenem
- The overseeing angel Jennah is called Ridwan and the overseeing angel of Jahannam is called Malik AZ-ZUKHRUF 43:77 "They will cry: "O Malik! would that thy Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Nay, but ye shall abide!""
- AZ-ZUMAR "The Unbelievers will be led to Hell in crowd: until, when they arrive, there, its gates will be opened. And its keepers(custodians) will say, "Did not apostles come to you from among yourselves, rehearsing to you the Signs of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of This Day of yours?" The answer will be: "True: but the Decree of Punishment has been proved true against the Unbelievers!"
[edit] Angels entrusted with the sperm in the womb
- Al-Bukhari and Muslim transmitted from Anas bin Malik that he said that the messenger of Allah
said.
"Allah has put an angel in charge of the womb. He says 'O Lord, a drop? O Lord, a clot? O lLord, a morsel?' When Allah desires to complete the creation of the foetus, he says 'O Lord, male or female? Wretched or happy? How much provision? How long a lifespan?' and he writes that for him in his mothers's womb." [citation needed]
[edit] The Bearers of the Throne
AL-HAAQQA 69:17 "And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them."
[edit] The Karubiyyun
These are the chiefs of the angels who are borught near and are the closest angels to the Throne bearers.
[edit] The Angels of Dhikr
Another type of angel are the travellng angels who seek gatherings of dhikr.
- It is narrated by Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah
said
|
"Allah has some angels who roam about the streets in search of people mentioning Allah's names. When they find such a gathering, they call one another saying: Come to the object of your pursuit. The Prophet |
(This Hadith is sound and related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim. [citation needed]"
