Isra and Mi'raj
From Mw
Isra and Mi'raj (Arabic: الإسراء والمعراج ) refers to two parts of a miraculous journey the blessed prophet Muhammad took from Mecca to Jerusalem and then a journey to Heaven, all in one night.
- Isra (Arabic: الإسراء ) is an Arabic word referring to the first part of prophet Muhammad's miraculous night journey from Masjid al-Haram in Mecca to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.
- Mi’raj (Arabic: المعراج ) is an Arabic word referring to the second part of the journey particularly the ascension of prophet Muhammad from Masjid al-Aqsa to the heavens.
This celebrated event in Islam is considered to have taken place before Hijra and after prophet Muhammad's visit to the people of Taif. It is considered to have happened just over a year before the Hijra, on the 27th Rajab 2 BH (11th March 620). In many parts of the Islamic world, this date is celebrated as Lailat al Miraj.

[edit] The Qur'an
| “ | Glory be to Him (God) Who made His servant to go on a night from the Sacred Mosque to the remote mosque of which We have blessed the precincts, so that We may show to him some of Our signs; surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing. | „ |
| “ | And when We (God) said to you: Surely your Lord encompasses men; and We did not make the vision which We showed you but a trial for men and the cursed tree in the Quran as well; and We cause them to fear, but it only adds to their great inordinacy | „ |
| “ | And certainly he saw him in another descent, At the farthest lote-tree; Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. When that which covers covered the lote-tree; The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. | „ |
